Sam Smith surprises fans at Spotify Listening Party

Sam Smith appeared in good spirits as they surprised fans at a listening party for their new album Gloria at The Windmill on Tuesday night.

The non-binary singer, 30, who goes by the pronouns she/she, wore a cardigan and jeans for the fun night out as they celebrated their latest musical offering.

Sam wore platinum blonde hair for the evening as they gave a talk and hugged adoring fans who had no idea they would be in attendance.

The superstar wore nothing under his red and white patterned cardigan and jeans and completed his look with Timberland boots.

The outing comes after Sam said it was a “shame” there were no women nominated for Best Female Artist at the BRIT Awards.

The Unholy hitmaker was one of the first musicians to call for a “thoughtful” ceremony, leading to organizers making the event the first major UK awards to abolish gender categories.

But Sam still believes there is still a long way to go after being shortlisted for this year’s prestigious award, which features only male nominees.

Sam said there are many female artists who should have been shortlisted rather than just Harry Styles, Stormzy, George Ezra, Central Cee and Fred Again having to compete for the award.

When asked which women should have been shortlisted, they replied: “Cat Burns. Annemarie. Florence Welch. There is so much incredible female talent in the UK – they should be on this list.”

They said: “Things are moving forward, but it is obvious that things are not there yet. Of seeing that [best artist] List, there is still a long way to go’.

“It’s incredibly frustrating. “It feels like it should be easy.”

In 2021, the BRIT Awards announced it would scrap the male and female categories to honor artists “for their music alone”.

They continued: ‘[The BRITs] everyone just has to celebrate, because this isn’t just about artists getting awards.

“Awards are for kids who watch TV and think, ‘I can make music like this.’ When I was young, seeing more queer people at these awards would have lightened my heart. Awards should inspire.”

While Sam believes their new album Gloria is their most authentic album yet, they insisted they’ve never been “inauthentic,” just not as comfortable with themselves.

Sam said: “I’ve always been authentic. I just think that asking a 24-year-old to be 100 percent himself in front of 20,000 people would never happen.

“I’ve shown 70 percent of who I was then, and a lot of that has to do with being gay.”

“However, as I got older, I realized that there is no shame. I wasn’t inauthentic – you just keep some things to yourself until you’re ready.

It comes after Geroge Ezra was called out on Twitter over his nomination for the BRITs’ Artist of the Year award last week, while female stars were snubbed.

The 29-year-old singer appeared on Lorraine and said the BRITs panel had “done a great job of recognizing talent” – despite only men being nominated for the top gong.

Viewers angrily took to Twitter to question the organizers’ decision not to feature a single female nude and many said, embarrassingly for George, that they felt the likes of Dua Lipa, Raye and Florence & The Machine were more worthy than him.

One wrote: “Are the BRITs really saying they don’t think there are better female artists in this country than George Ezra?” Another added: “You can’t tell me George Ezra is better than Raye or Dua or anyone else Artist”.

A third viewer chimed in: “BRIT stands for Boys Receive Industry Trophies,” while another wrote: “It’s an absolute disgrace that The Brits doesn’t have a woman nominated for Artist of the Year. It’s even more of a shame that George is Ezra.’
