Samsung 2023 soundbar range: we’ll take the same ones and start over

Samsung’s 2023 soundbar lineup hasn’t changed much from the 2022 lineup. Only the high-end models and some entry-level models have some additional features.

Q Series: You don’t change a winning team

The novelty of this new range is its compatibility with the new Q-Symphony 3.0 function. This technology, already present in previous series, allows the speakers of the soundbar to be synchronized with those of the TV to optimize immersion. This new generation should improve the sound reproduction compared to the old one. Note that this feature is only compatible with Samsung QLED, Neo QLED and the Frame 2021 and OLED 2022 TVs.

The HW-Q990C acts as the spearhead of this 2023 lineup. It inherits many of the features and functions of its predecessor, the HW-Q990B, such as its design, an 11.1.4-channel configuration, 22 speakers, a subwoofer, wireless bass and two wireless rear satellites.

The novelty specific to this HW-Q990C is the inclusion of the subwoofer in the calibration process. Last year, only the bar and satellites were considered. The bar can also function as a SmartThings IoT hub, meaning it can act as a hub for connected objects in your home.

The HW-Q990C will be available in April 2023 at a price of 1499 euros.

The HW-Q930C and HW-Q800C follow in the range. The first model consists of a soundbar, a wireless subwoofer and two satellites with 9.1.4 channel playback. The HW-Q800C is quite similar but doesn’t come with the rear satellites carrying the 5.1.2 channel system configuration.

The HW-Q930C and HW-Q800C will be available in April 2023, priced at €999 and €799 respectively.

Next up are the HW-Q700C and HW-Q600C. These are systems consisting of a bar and subwoofer in a 3.1.2 configuration. The Q700C model features true vertical speakers and WiFi connectivity, while the Q600C is characterized by the presence of bars rather than speakers to reproduce vertical effects. It’s also without WiFi connectivity.

The HW-Q700C and HW-Q600C will be available in April 2023, priced at €699 and €549 respectively.

Finally, the HW-Q60C is a bar + subwoofer unit that offers a 3.1 channel configuration. It remains compatible with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, but in a virtual way, as it doesn’t have speakers for height effects. It’s also without WiFi connectivity.

The HW-Q60C will be available in April 2023 for €499.

S series: nothing new to report

The S Series range maintains the references of last year. We therefore find the very thin HW-S800B bar, Dolby Atmos compatible and accompanied by a small wireless subwoofer, all at the price of €699. Rounding out the range are the HW-S60B and HW-S50B all-in-one bars, which retail at €329 and €279 respectively.

C/B series: The partially renewed entry-level model

Of the many entry-level models Samsung has for sale, only the HW-C450, HW-C430, and HW-C400 benefit from changes. The first two gain compatibility with the DTS Virtual:X sound virtualization mode to simulate pitched voices to improve immersion. In fact, this mode has never convinced us, on the contrary, it often tends to distort the sound reproduction. These two models also get two additional listening modes: a night mode that compresses the bass and a mode that improves the clarity of dialogue.

The HW-C450, HW-C430 and HW-C400 will be available in April 2022 for €229, €229 and €129 respectively.
