Neil Gaiman’s reflection
“We never know where they will take us Our dreams. 35 years ago today, the first issue of Sandman was published and took many people and characters down paths that even back then seemed so improbable as to be impossible. Back then, most comics featured superheroes. Sandman it wasn’t like that. It wasn’t like anything else, but magically (magic was hard work, youthful confidence, and a few key people who believed in the vision) we were given the opportunity to tell the story I had in my head Give life to Morpheus and the rest of the Eternals.
Just over 36 years ago, in October 1987, the worst storm In at least 500 years, it had left my house without power and my family trapped by fallen trees in our small town. I spent my time writing an outline for the first eight issues of Sandman.
Thirteen months later, in November 1988the first issue of Sandman, appeared in comic shops.
Like those who walk a path in the Garden of Destiny, I look back and see a clear path stretching out behind me. Sometimes on this journey, The way forward seemed impossible, and I don’t think I could have imagined the impact these characters would have on individuals or the world. However, when I look into the future, I see no darkness. I see how The world of Sandman continues to grow and evolve and take on new forms.
This week We are officially starting production again in the next episode of the Sandman stories for Netflix. The brilliant showrunner Allan Heinberg and the countless people in front of and behind the cameras build up something infinitely special and bringing these stories to life in ways once unimaginable.
A journey begins that will take us From the Garden of Destiny to Hell, from the heart of the dream to ancient Greece and revolutionary France to places I can’t even imagine on screen. I will be patient. “Good things are yet to come.”
