On Monday, the photographer’s family announced that he died on August 5 from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), which he had struggled with for several years. He was 57 years old.

“My heart is broken for Sandy and Bryan. Sandy has lost his soulmate and the world has lost a talented, handsome and good guy! My prayers and condolences go out to their families. Rest in peace Bryan Randall,” the The Color of Feelings star said in an Instagram post.

“Up there in paradise there is a tiny lady who looks a lot like me who guides the local angels with a magic wand. Especially Gabriel. She lets him play any song you want to hear. Give him a kiss from me,” Octavia Spencer added, no doubt referring to her late mother, Dellsena.

Octavia Spencer and Sandra Bullock’s friendship dates back to the time they became close on the set of Right to Kill, the 1996 drama that also starred Matthew McConaughey, Samuel L. Jackson, Kevin Spacey and Kiefer Sutherland.
