A maxim in popular urban culture is that once you’re born and raised in the neighborhood, you’ll always be from the neighborhood. There is also an unwritten law that says that if you leave the neighborhood, The neighborhood never leaves you because you carry it in your being. These words can be exemplified by Santa Fe Klan, a Mexican rapper who claims to owe a lot to the place where he grew up, the Santa Fe neighborhood in Guanajuato.

Although he is considered one of the Latin American artists of the moment and the recordings were sold out in several cities in the United States, Ángel Jair Quezada Jasso, his real name, doesn’t want to lose his apartment. Among other things, the fame he currently enjoys does not bring him the happiness he would like. And something that makes him happy is thinking about his neighborhood, a place he is grateful for because, despite its flaws, he was able to know that joy lies in simplicity.

During the interview he gave to Yordi Rosado, the rapper shared that although the success of his songs makes him happy, it does not keep him awake. He prefers other pleasures that he does not have today.

“I’m tired of trying to live a happy life like my parents’. It’s tough.” I can’t have that, but I have my music. I sleep with microphones, with my piano. I like music very much. I have money left over. This is what I have. I didn’t have that before. But…”.

Not even money made him feel fulfilled after suffering hardships throughout his childhood and adolescence. The Santa Fe Klan confirmed this to itself when it decided to go to sleep with pesos and dollars. Contrary to the fascination that boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. has with this practice, Ángel Jair Quezada Jasso does not find it pleasant.

“I slept with bills, with money that sang to the end. And net, you don’t feel anything. People might think that way. I did it to feel happiness, to feel good. “You don’t feel anything.”

Without feeling anything when he wakes up surrounded by money, the 23-year-old rapper turns his attention to other details that fill his heart. For example, the desire for a united family. With that in mind, the Santa Fe Klan is doubly homesick. For one thing, his parents have just separated. On the other hand, she misses Luka, the son she has with influencer Maya Nazor.

“Right now I have my child, I feel like he’s growing up and I need to be with him.” The day he grows up he will freak out if he sees me with someone else. I want him to be with me this time… Now (I feel) alone, I don’t have my son and I can hardly be with him because of work and because we have to go from one place to another, he is there in Guadalajara.

Faced with this panorama, after having had the experience of lying between banknotes and finding himself at an extraordinary moment in his career, The Santa Fe Klan considers itself dissatisfied. That’s why he values his years as a neighborhood boy in Guanajuato before leaving to pursue his dreams as a rap artist and composer.

“Despite everything we are experiencing right now, we must try to be as happy as we can. They are one thing for another, you can’t have everything in life.” I wish we could live a life like this in a united and happy family. That’s why I appreciate and respect my parents very much because they made us happy despite the poverty and despite the neighborhood. “It’s cool that I lived that because maybe I won’t live through it again.”

He treasures his memories of Santa Fe so much that he shares anecdotes from that time with Yordi Rosado with nostalgia and affection. It tells him about the unity that existed to support each other. For example, when his mother got credit at the store or when his mother did him a favor by mixing the chilies for the neighbor.
