Sarah Ferguson breaks her silence on ‘snub’ coronation invitation

Sarah Ferguson announced she won’t be at the coronation because she is divorced from Prince Andrew.

The Duchess of York, 63, revealed that “you can’t have both” while speaking to Kate Garraway and Adil Ray on Good Morning Britain on Thursday.

She said, “I’m not [going] it’s a state occasion and being divorced I don’t think you can have both.

“I’m divorced and I really love being divorced from my ex-husband, not him but him, it’s important to differentiate.

“Just because I’m not there for the state occasion, but privately I can be there and it’s a nice feeling to be there, it really is, and like I said you can’t have both, you can’t put yourself on.” the fence, you’re in or out, don’t mess around.’

Speaking about King Charles and Queen Camilla, she revealed they did an “extraordinary job of bringing the family together.”

She said: “What’s great about this moment is the family unity and I think Charles and Camilla are doing an exceptional job of bringing the family together.

Elsewhere, Sarah said that Prince Andrew “needs to turn off the spotlight” so he can “get on with his life.”

The prince has been accused of sexual abuse by Virginia Giuffre, who claims she was trafficked by convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.

The Duke has vehemently denied the allegations, claiming he never met Giuffre.

However, due to the allegations, he lost his royal titles and is no longer a working king as of 2020.

She said: “He’s such a good man with Prince Andrew. He’s a kind good man and I think the spotlight needs to be off him and let him get on with his life to rebuild himself.

Sarah, who shares Princess Beatrice and Eugenie’s children with Andrew, added that he is a “very good grandfather” to his grandchildren.

Later in the show, Kate asked what she thought the late Princess Diana, of whom Fergie was close, would think of Prince Harry and Prince William’s current relationship.

She replied, “It was all about staying true to her heart, and her heart would say, ‘My boys have done really well, they look so happy in their own family units and they have beautiful children.'”

“And she would pay attention to that. She would look up and I don’t know, she’s not here to speak for herself, but from me, speaking to you here, I would say that we should have a lot more kindness in life.

“We all need to stop being so cruel and trollish, lead by example, smile and be kind.”

It was reported last week that the Duchess would not be attending the event next month – although Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie will be there.

Royal commentator Tom Bower previously told Web that Sarah has shut herself out because of her past “conduct”.

He added that their presence “would provoke critical comments that Charles doesn’t need.”

And expert Richard Fitzwilliams praised the king’s “extremely wise” decision because it was “an embarrassment to the royal family for many years”.

But the apparent decision has caught some royal observers by surprise – Meghan’s friend Omid Scobie tweeted: “If true, that feels kinda cruel doesn’t it?”

Speaking about Sarah’s absence, Mr Bower said she was left out “because she is not a member of the royal family”.

He added that she excluded herself “by her past behavior,” saying, “Her presence would provoke critical comments that Charles doesn’t need.”

Among Sarah’s most embarrassing moments was when photos were released showing her financial adviser, John Bryan, sucking her toes at her holiday villa in St Tropez, while they were also kissing, hugging and frolicking in the pool.

She is also said to have had a falling out with her once good friend Princess Diana after she claimed she got a wart after borrowing a pair of her shoes. They were reportedly still not on speaking terms at the time of Diana’s death in 1997.

And in 2010 she apologized after being secretly recorded and offering to sell Andrew access for £500,000.

Mr Fitzwilliams told Web: “The decision not to invite Sarah Ferguson is extremely wise and to be welcomed. She has been an embarrassment to the royal family for many years.

“She keeps giving embarrassing interviews, it doesn’t seem to end.

“There are times when a dignified silence is required that she doesn’t seem capable of.”

Sarah attended the Queen’s funeral at Westminster Abbey last September but was not one of the 30 guests at Prince Philip’s funeral in April 2021.

She wasn’t invited to Prince William and Kate’s wedding in 2011 and said she went on holiday to Thailand instead – but attended Harry and Meghan’s wedding at St George’s Chapel in Windsor in May 2018.

Of the coronation, one of Sarah’s friends told the Independent: “She was very supportive of Charles and Camilla and doesn’t want it to be about them.

“The whole day revolves around the new king and the success of his reign, but she has always championed the royal family and the Queen would no doubt have wanted her to be there.”

Her lack of invitation comes despite Andrew showing up for the Easter service at St George’s Chapel in Windsor – although her ex-husband is still excluded from most of life within the royal family.

Sarah herself has also enjoyed something of a renaissance in recent months after she was invited to join King Charles and other senior royals at Sandringham for Christmas and look after the late Queen’s corgis.

She was also a favorite of the late Queen and they were known to spend a lot of time together, including walks in Windsor Park.
