Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, diagnosed with breast cancer, undergoing surgery

Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, has had surgery after being diagnosed with breast cancer, her spokesman confirmed on Sunday.

The cancer was discovered during a routine mammogram, the spokesman said. Her cancer surgery was successful.

“The Duchess is receiving the best medical care and her doctors have told her the prognosis is good. She is now recovering with her family,” the spokesman said. “The Duchess would like to extend her huge thanks to all the medical staff who have supported her over the past few days.”

Ferguson, commonly known as Fergie, was symptom free. Because of her experiences, she emphasized the importance of regular breast cancer screening, said her spokeswoman.
