Sarah Michelle Gellar revealed on her Instagram Story on Monday that she has COVID-19.
The 45-year-old actress shared a written post explaining her recent absence from social media and sharing some details on how her history of asthma and lung problems had impacted her experience with the disease.
“I realize I’ve been really quiet here. After two and a half years, Covid finally got me,” the Cruel Intentions star began.

She continued: “Luckily I’m vaccinated and refreshed. But for those out there who say, “It’s just a cold”… maybe for some lucky people it is.
“But for this (relatively) young fit person who has struggled with asthma and lung problems her whole life, that’s not my experience.
Sarah added, “Even with the therapies and all my protocols, it’s been tough. I know I’m on the road to recovery, but it certainly hasn’t been an easy road.
“I realize I’ve been really quiet here. After two and a half years, Covid finally got me,” the Cruel Intentions star began
“I’ll be back soon (hopefully with super antibodies… if only for a while). To quote a friend of mine, “I’d rather wear a mask in the shower if that means I don’t get that again,” she concluded.
It is currently unknown if the performer’s husband Freddie Prinze Jr., 46, daughter Charlotte Grace, 12, or son Rocky James, nine, have also tested positive for COVID-19.

She told the outlet both children also have asthma, while Freddie experiences occasional bouts with the disease.
“Over the past two years, we’ve obviously faced a pandemic, which is a viral respiratory disease,” she said. “You realize how much is really at stake for someone like me who is suffering.”
The New York native told Health she knew the pandemic would pose a greater threat to her and her family because of her conditions.
“When the pandemic first hit, everyone with asthma knew that breathing is a challenge and we need to think about it,” Sarah said.
“If we got COVID, my body would have a harder time fighting it and breathing deeply. It increases it for anyone with asthma.’

Sarah explained that the pandemic has prompted her to take a more proactive approach to her health, including communicating with her doctors regularly and taking her asthma medication consistently.
“I have to listen to my own body,” she adds. “For me it’s part of my life.”
In September 2021, the actress worked with pharmaceutical company TEVA on a campaign to raise awareness about inhaler use and abuse.
In an interview with People, the Scooby-Doo actress explained that she and her children are not letting their asthma hold them back.
“I don’t let any of that limit me,” she told People.
Sarah continued: “I think in relation to any kind of health you have to find out what it is and if there is a treatment – use it.
“That’s why we live in the modern world and science, right?” She added. “…Not every case is the same as mine, but I should set an example of someone who won’t let a diagnosis of asthma stop them from doing something, and the same goes for my children.”
