The song “Layla” divides opinions: some think it’s cool, others sexist. Music is sometimes banned in Vienna, but not at fire festivals in Lower Austria.
The party song about Puffmama “Layla” is currently causing a stir and subsequently making headlines – the charge is sexism. Because in DJ Robin & Schürze’s hit Ballermann, which is currently topping the charts in Germany and Austria, he says, among other things: “I have a whorehouse and my whorehouse mother’s name is Layla. She’s prettier, younger, pretty Layla, horny Layla. Lalalala. Layla bitch, our Layla, Lalalala.”
Critics called the text sexist on Twitter and found the song frivolous and misogynistic – even prominent politicians spoke out with their opinion.
The summer’s success also caused heated discussions in Austria. In the well-known Bettelalm they do not want to play the hit “certainly”. Scene presenter Mario Obermaier made this very clear in the “Today” interview. “We don’t want to be labeled, there’s more class at our parties – that’s not our style,” says the head of Bettelalm. With the RIGHT FIX! Anyway, on Thursday you won’t find the song in the party playlist – more on that here.
There is no ban on fire festivals in Lower Austria
In Lower Austria, for example, at popular fire festivities, music is not prohibited. “Each fire brigade commander decides for himself what is played and what is not. I’m not a fan of censorship either,” explains the St. Pölten, Dietmar Fahrafellner, who is also the head of the fire brigade for all of Lower Austria.
“Jeanny” by Falco
In the 1980s, the song “Jeanny” from the legendary “Falcon” caused protests and bans. Several women’s initiatives called for a boycott. Some German broadcasters dropped the song and the “scandal video” from their program, some broadcasters only played the song on the hit chart. At the time, Thomas Gottschalk told Falco that he was a sausage who produced nonsense. Falco’s counterattack in his inimitable way: “I can’t blame an ex-teacher if he can’t tell a sausage from a Bockwurst.”
