A 20-year-old Australian girl bitten by a snake that crawled into her bed was saved, but this nightmarish awakening risks leaving her scarred for life.
According to a report from The Guardian cited by France Live, the woman was woken by a stabbing pain in her hand on January 12 as she slept at the family home west of Brisbane, Queensland.
The victim, who was bitten by the snake hidden under the bedclothes after entering the house during the day, was given timely anti-venom before being transported by helicopter to a hospital by emergency services called by the family, British media said.
“I just remember turning around and feeling a very strong bite sensation,” the young woman said, adding: “My hand felt like it was on fire and I could feel it starting to moving up my arm.”
According to France Live, this brown snake, a very common species in Australia, one of the most venomous in the world, capable of killing an adult in less than 30 minutes, is responsible for 60% of bite deaths in this vast country.
