The German Chancellor speaks out and ends the German blockade against a crisis mechanism, the most important of the new European asylum laws.
Brussels. The migration crisis is a top priority – also in Berlin. On Wednesday, Chancellor Olaf Scholz of the SPD spoke out, according to consistent reports in the “” and the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”, and told his Green coalition partners at the government meeting that Germany was committed with a European agreement on the reform of the asylum and migration system will not be an obstacle. He was imprisoned until the end because the Greens opposed the so-called “Ordinance for crisis situations and force majeure situations in the area of migration and asylum”. Foreign Affairs Minister Annalena Baerbock argued that this would weaken protection for asylum seekers too much. Without Germany’s consent, however, it is impossible for the 27 Member States to agree on a common position on the issue of this crisis mechanism. That’s why the European Parliament declared last week that it did not want to negotiate two more parts of the asylum and migration package until all 27 governments met.
