School bus driver collides with six vehicles

A major emergency operation has brought the Boulevard du Séminaire to a standstill since today (Wednesday). The driver of a school bus full of students crashed into a line of cars stopped at a red light on the corner of Frontenac Street.

Two people were injured in one of the six cars involved in the accident. The firefighters managed to free the victims using rescue tongs. Both people were taken to hospital, but their lives are not in danger.

The pileup occurred northbound at 5:24 p.m. Since then, Boulevard du Séminaire has been closed northwards between Boulevard Gouin and Rue Saint-Georges.

There were several students on the bus at the time of the accident. None of them were injured.

charging

The bus driver, an 82-year-old man, was arrested by police. Since he continued driving after the collision, he could face charges of hit-and-run causing injury.

The Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu police are still on site this evening. He asked the Sûreté du Québec to cooperate in reconstructing the scene.
