School shooting in Nashville, 7 dead ANSA news agency

Nashville elementary school shooting victims escalate. According to American media reports, the dead are at least seven, three children and three adults, plus the attacker, a 28-year-old woman with at least two assault rifles and a pistol, Nashville police said. The killer died in a clash with police, but it is not known if she was shot by the agents or if she took her own life.

“We are trying to identify the attacker, a woman, probably a teenager,” the police initially said, stressing that the death toll, including the attacker, is seven. “We are analyzing the footage at the school to understand exactly what happened,” the police add, indicating that there are 209 students at the school on a normal day. The girl would have entered the school through a side door.

The shooting happened at Covenant School, a Presbyterian school in Tennessee. The institute is attended by about 200 students from kindergarten to sixth grade.

“Though we don’t yet know the details, schools are meant to be safe places to learn and teach,” the White House said when commenting on the shooting at a Nashville school. “Enough is enough, Congress must take action against gun violence. How many more children must die before we act?” said spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre.
