Sources: Scoot Henderson is gaining some serious momentum in tonight’s NBA draft pick with the Charlotte Hornets. Hornets disputes erupted last week between Henderson and Brandon Miller. The team has final meetings today to make a decision.
This report is at odds with some earlier reports this week that linked Brandon Miller to the Hornets as No. 2. If Henderson were the Hornets’ 2nd pick, the Blazers would likely take Miller with the 3rd pick barring a trade.
The Blazers could also opt to pick overtime elite point guard Amen Thompson as their No. 3 pick. Thompson, along with his twin Ausar, visited Portland for training a few weeks ago.
Teams want to trade for Henderson, but if the Hornets picked him 2nd place, it could greatly reduce the likelihood of a deal for Miller. There is interest in Miller from other teams, but the price of a trade with the Blazers may be too high.
If the Blazers don’t conjure up a swap, it’s in their best interest to sign the best player available, and if Henderson and Victor Wembanyama aren’t in it, Miller should be the best option.
