The “cruel” diagnosis came almost a year after they shared his battle with aphasia.

The “Die Hard” star’s entire family, including his ex-wife Demi Moore, released a joint statement Thursday afternoon in which he explained the “cruel” diagnosis he eventually received after initially being told that he suffers from aphasia.

“Today, there are no treatment options for the disease, a reality that we hope will change in the years to come,” the family wrote. “As Bruce’s condition progresses, we hope media attention can focus on shedding light on this disease, which requires much more awareness and research.”

The group explained that Bruce, 67, was unable to react to his situation but said if he “could” he would express his appreciation for the love he has received.

“Bruce has always found joy in life – and has helped everyone he knows do the same,” the family wrote. “It meant the world to see that sense of caring radiate back to him and all of us.”
