American hip-hop superstar Sean Combs, Puff Daddy on stage, and his ex-girlfriend, singer Cassie, have reached an “amicable” settlement, a day after she filed a complaint against him of rape and physical violence, reported American media on Friday.
The 37-year-old R&B singer, dancer and model, whose real name is Casandra Ventura, filed a lawsuit against Sean Combs on Thursday. The court document describes “sexual violence,” “psychological abuse” and “deviant behavior” spanning more than a decade and accuses Mr. Combs of raping her in 2018.
Ben Brafman, Mr Combs’ New York lawyer, “vigorously” denied the allegations, calling them “offensive and scandalous” in a statement to AFP.
However, the two parties said on Friday evening that they had agreed to an amicable settlement of the matter, without providing further details, American media, including the New York Times, reported.
“I have decided to settle the matter amicably on terms that give me some control,” Ms. Ventura said in a statement published in American media. “I would like to thank my family, my fans and my lawyers for their continued support,” she added.
Mr Combs, 54, confirmed her decision in a separate statement. “I wish Cassie and her family all the best,” he said.
According to Ms. Ventura, the singer met the hip-hop star when she was 19 and he was 37.
Sean Combs, aka Diddy on stage, is part of the hip-hop billionaires club, thanks in part to his business in the alcohol industry.
