Sean Payton in Denver: an ideal scenario for Russell Wilson

Quarterback Russell Wilson specifically wants the Denver Broncos to make Sean Payton their next head coach.

However, the Colorado formation isn’t the only formation that has shown interest in the ex-Saints of New Orleans pilot. According to information from the ESPN network, the Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans have received permission from the Saints to negotiate with the 59-year-old.

Wilson’s first season with the Broncos didn’t go quite as planned. He led his team to a poor 5-12 record, amassed no fewer than 55 quarterback sacks in 15 games, and collected just 16 touchdowns and 3,524 yards in the air.

The FOX Sports Network reported that Wilson contacted Payton to convince him to move to Denver. The 34-year-old center is aware of facets of his game that he needs to improve and believes Payton is the right man to help him get back to his old form.

The latter resigned in January 2022 after his 15th campaign at the helm of the Saints. He went 152-89 and led Louisiana to a Super Bowl title in 2009.

Payton has also held various positions behind the bench for the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles.

The Broncos fired Nathaniel Hackett on December 26, just 15 games after he took over the team.
