Are or have you ever been registered on a dating site? If so, have you become addicted to it? It’s called “Online Dating Anxiety Disorder”.

Sexologist Anne-Marie Ménard explored this question during her weekly appearance at the microphone of Sophie Durocher on QUB radio.

She mentions that this addiction is not yet a pathology found in the Mental Disorder Diagnostic Manual. However, it is “recognized by professionals around the world as something that can cause real mental distress,” explained Ms Ménard.

Of course, the first intention of consuming dating sites is to meet people. Except it can become more of a narcissistic need. It can take a completely different turn if the users of these platforms primarily try to assert themselves, to know what others think of them. It’s that affirmation that singles hold on to. This is where addiction arises.

Approximately “56% of men and 46% of women surveyed believe that with these applications it is always possible to find someone better by looking further. That’s not negligible!” exclaimed the sexologist.

She adds that addiction to dating apps can affect a person’s social life. The professional appearance can even be affected. So it’s a trend that shouldn’t be taken lightly.
