Patrick Huard will once again be the pilot of this unique competition, based on a format of Japanese origin (documentary), in which 10 personalities spend a day together and do everything to make others laugh while remaining themselves. -immediately apathetic. Because as soon as a competitor laughs or smiles, he is automatically eliminated… or almost. Last season, competitors typically received a warning before being ejected.
This second season will be based on the experience of Stéphane Rousseau. For a few hours, the stand-up comedian and actor switched film sets and left the hospital corridors of STAT to join the set of LOL: Who Will Laugh Last? to connect.
Stéphane Rousseau will compete against Philippe Laprise, Katherine Levac, Neev, Rosalie Vaillancourt and Mariana Mazza. Fabien Cloutier, who is currently performing his second one-man show, Délicat, will also be trying to win the $100,000 prize money. This amount will be donated to a charity chosen by the winner.
The younger generation is represented by Tailaire Laguerre, known to many by his pseudonym Tai TL. The 21-year-old Montrealer of Haitian descent has become a star on social media in recent years. He has 658,000 and 1,700,000 followers on Instagram and TikTok, respectively. Last spring he performed four times at the Casino de Paris.
Pier-Luc Funk will also appear in the show’s end credits. The actor and impressive improviser accepted the invitation of Productions Attraction (En direct de l’univers, Les chefs) and our little finger tells us that we have to keep an eye on him.
As for Roxane Bruneau, her presence will surprise many, except perhaps her unconditional fans who follow her on YouTube and elsewhere. She often posts videos with a humorous tone that she puts together herself. On Facebook, the singer presents herself as a “comedian, actress and singer-songwriter”. How will she handle her little jokes surrounded by a group of seasoned professionals? The bets are off.
We’ll have to wait until 2024 to know who will take over (spoiler alert): Laurent Paquin and Richardson Zéphir, who – tied – won the first season of LOL: Who Laughs Last? won, which landed on Prime Video last January. The two comedians fought a heated battle until the end, surviving successive eliminations from Math Duff, Christine Morency, Rachid Badouri, Édith Cochrane, Marie-Lyne Joncas, Virginie Fortin, Arnaud Soly and Yves P. Pelletier.
Prime Video is way ahead
Prime Video plans to reveal the identities of the main participants of LOL: Who Has the Last Laugh? to confirm. next week at New City Gas in Montreal, during the 2023-2024 program launch. A third season of the show is already planned.
Amazon’s on-demand content platform is clearly relying on humor to gain a foothold in the Quebec market. Since last winter, it has been offering four evenings of stand-up performances led by various comedians such as Dominic Paquet and PA Méthot, for one evening only. This fall she will broadcast the Ultimate Just for Laughs Gala, recorded last summer at the famous Montreal festival, with Yvon Deschamps, Martin Matte, Louis-José Houde and Daniel Lemire.
Prime Video is undoubtedly the foreign streaming service that offers the most original productions from Quebec.
Since March, he has been offering “Meanwhile in the Kitchen,” a documentary series dedicated to the daily lives of chefs at large local restaurants. Prime Video has also revived the soap opera Nuit Blanche (a second season is currently being filmed) and is also proposing to create a documentary series about the influencer Élisabeth Rioux. We’re also expecting The Sticky, a series inspired by the historic 2012 maple syrup theft and co-produced by Jamie Lee Curtis. The actors Guillaume Cyr and Suzanne Clément were involved in the filming.
On the Netflix side, we note the agreement signed last spring with Just for Laughs TV for three comedy shows in French. Since December, the American giant has also hosted Math Duff’s solo exhibition. There is nothing to report on Disney+ and Apple TV+.
Not surprisingly, the menu of local platforms ICI Tou.tv Extra, Club illico and Crave is much richer in new Quebec content.
