After the voice recorder, the flight data recorder was also discovered, the official Xinhua news agency reported on Sunday. Investigators hope the two recording devices will provide important technical information and other data about the cause of the Boeing 737-800 crash.

123 passengers died

The day before, Chinese authorities had confirmed that all 123 passengers and nine crew had died. Rescue work continued at the crash site in a mountainous area in Teng County, near the city of Wuzhou, in southern China’s Guangxi region. 120 dead have already been identified, including 114 passengers and six crew.

The cause of the accident is a mystery. The machine of Chinese airline China Eastern Airlines suddenly plunged from a height of more than 8,000 meters on Monday, stopped briefly, but then fell further and hit the forest area almost vertically. Small pieces of debris were widely scattered at the crash site. No traces of explosives were found during laboratory tests.

According to authorities, several attempts were made to contact the machine. But the crew did not respond. The MU5735 signal disappeared about three minutes after the dive began. Aboard the plane, which was en route from Kunming to Guangzhou, were 123 passengers and nine crew.
