According to local Palestinian authorities, operations at the most important hospital in the southern Gaza Strip failed over the weekend due to ongoing fighting. At Nasser Hospital in the southern city of Khan Yunis, just four medical teams with a total of 25 staff were caring for patients, a spokesman for the Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Authority said today.
Speaker: There is wastewater in operating rooms
Due to a lack of fuel for emergency generators and fighting in the area, the clinic's operations were halted. “Nasser Hospital is the backbone of healthcare in the southern Gaza Strip.” This amounts to a “death sentence for hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians in Khan Yunis and Rafah,” the spokesperson said. The water supply has collapsed and wastewater is in the operating rooms. Care for intensive care patients is no longer possible. The lack of oxygen has already led to the death of at least seven patients.
Israel: Hundreds of suspects arrested
The Israeli military said special forces continued to operate in Nasser Hospital and the surrounding areas. Israeli troops raided the largest operating clinic in the Gaza Strip on Thursday. According to the Army, 100 suspects were arrested at the scene.
Additionally, armed men were killed nearby and weapons were found inside the clinic. Hamas denies Israeli allegations that its fighters use medical facilities as shields. However, at least two Israeli hostages released from Hamas said they were being held at Nasser Hospital.
The Gaza Health Authority said 127 Palestinians had been killed in Israeli strikes in the past 24 hours. Another 205 were injured. In total, 28,985 Palestinians have been killed and 68,883 injured in the densely populated coastal zone since the start of the war in Gaza, following the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7. The information does not distinguish between civilians and Hamas fighters.
