The Turkish citizens residing abroad started this Saturday May 20th at Voting in the second round of the presidential election The Turkish government called for an election on May 28 between the current head of government and state, the Islamist Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and the social democrat Kemal Kilicdaroglu.

In total 151 Turkish missions opened polls in 167 points in 73 countriesreported the Supreme Electoral Council (YSK) in Ankara.

More of 3.4 million Turkish voters are eligible to vote abroad, of which 52.6% cast their votes in the first ballot on May 14.

The second ballot was called after none of the presidential candidates achieved the absolute majority required by law Law Gain access to the highest position in the state.

After reaching that threshold with 49.5%, Erdogan starts as a clear favorite against Kiliçdaroglu, who reached 44.8%.

Erdogan’s lead was significantly larger among citizens living abroad: 57.7% voted for him and only 39.7% of the electorate. Bet on the opposing rival.

Third place went to nationalist Sinan Ogan, who has become a key figure for the second round with 5.17% of the total vote: He is expected to explain next week whether he advises his supporters to vote for either of the two main opponents.

The polling stations abroad remain open until the next midnight, with the exception of the polling stations next to the Borderwhere you can vote up to and including May 28th.
