Cobie Smulders’ Maria Hill is a main character in the premiere of Secret invasion, available since last Wednesday. If you haven’t seen the episode yet, read no further.
In a recent interview, Cobie Smulders spoke about Maria Hill’s death and how it will impact her future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe:
I like to think that when she died she knew it wasn’t him. It’s scary at first and she’s so confusing. But I like to think it got there.
Reflecting on her death scene, which was filmed in London amid much Marvel-esque secrecy, the actress said:
It felt weird. The death of Maria Hill is very real, it is shocking and it feels very human… It was a sad day.
The actress recalled that the multiverse also exists, so Maria Hill could return, but stressed that it could mark the end of her 12 years at Marvel.
I don’t know about the rumors that I’ll be on The Marvels this fall. There is now a multiverse, so anything is possible. But I’m pretty sure it’s over.
Also starring in Secret Invasion are Samuel L. Jackson, Emilia Clarke, Cobie Smulders, Don Cheadle, Martin Freeman, Olivia Colman, Carmen Ejogo, Christopher McDonald, Dermot Mulroney and Killian Scott.
The series was written and executive produced by Kyle Bradstreet, and directed by Thomas Bezucha and Ali Selim.
Secret Invasion will be available on Disney+ on June 21st.
