For the first time, Valérie Plante took a clear position in the conflict between the Quebec government and hundreds of thousands of its employees.
“My thoughts today are with those who want to have the best possible conditions to ensure the well-being and quality of life of our little ones, our middle-aged people, our adults and our elderly,” she said.
“I want to say to everyone who is currently using pressure that we stand behind them,” the mayor said in an unexpected statement to the council. “We wish them a happy holiday and, above all, we stand behind them to find a solution as quickly as possible. »
“I would like to define the current strike as a women’s strike,” Ms. Plante added. “A lot of women inhabit these more traditionally feminine environments. »
She received great applause from the elected representatives of the local council.
