The vote on a resolution to facilitate the provision of humanitarian aid to Gaza in the Security Council was postponed again this Wednesday after a week of negotiations.
According to the announcement by the representative of Ecuador and the president of the entity, Jose de la Gasca, the draft will be presented on Thursday morning, but a date has not yet been set.
For her part, the ambassador of the United Arab Emirates, Lana Nusseubeh, who is responsible for presenting the text, said that the delay was aimed at “positive results” in the diplomatic negotiations that have been ongoing since Monday.
Diplomatic sources assure that the main difficulty in presenting the proposal is to find “satisfactory” language for all parties, especially for the United States, Israel's main ally, which has already vetoed two previous projects since October 7 .
Regardless of the outcome of the negotiations, the text will be put to a vote, the Emirati representative told the press.
The proposed resolution calls for mechanisms to ensure the receipt of humanitarian assistance, which should be monitored by the United Nations “for a period of one year.”
At the same time, it calls for an end to the attacks on the population and civilian infrastructure and the unconditional release of the Hamas hostages.
