According to the Foreign Ministry website, Paris is asking its nationals who would consider traveling to Ecuador to “postpone their plans.” “We call on French nationals residing in Ecuador to exercise the utmost caution and to closely follow the evolution of the situation, referring to the instructions of the French Embassy in Quito,” it also said in an evening on Wednesday in January published press release 10.

Daniel Noboa, the Ecuadorian president, recognized on Tuesday an “internal armed conflict” in his country, marked by spectacular actions in recent days: the escape of several gang leaders, the kidnapping of police officers and a hostage-taking broadcast live on television. A state of emergency was declared on Monday and President Daniel Noboa ordered “the mobilization and intervention of the armed forces and the national police.”
