Things haven’t been going so well for the Chicago Blackhawks this season, but the Illinois roster has found a way to comfort its players. At practice on Friday, the pups shared the ice with Jonathan Toews and co.

The Hawks captain, who will return to training on Saturday after a two-month absence, was one of those who took advantage of the little furballs’ presence.
This is an initiative of striker Colin Blackwell’s spouse, who is collaborating with a foundation this year. Getting all these Golden Retrievers out on the ice is going to get them a lot of publicity. Who knows? Some players might be tempted.
“My fiancee Lauren decided to partner with an animal rescue foundation this year. We have taken in several dogs with them this year; a poodle and a goldendoodle, we found a home for them,” Blackwell said in a scrum.
“In short, they rescued these puppies from euthanasia shelters. We’re trying to find a home for them. […] Everyone loves dogs and they were able to come onto the ice to meet the boys.”
“It was nice to see the smiles on their faces,” he concluded.
The Blackhawks are last in the National League Central Division with 54 points in 75 games. Not welcoming dogs to their team, they could benefit from Connor Bedard’s help next season.
Chicago’s next game is Saturday against the New Jersey Devils.
