See the dog that was inducted into the Guinness as the oldest in the world

Being the mother or father of a pet means getting lots of kisses from the kittens. Every owner wants their pet to live for many years, and in some cases certain pets come close to that. A puppy from Ohio in the United States has been recognized by the Guinness Book as the oldest dog in the world. Spike, the Chihuahua breed, is a proud 23 years and 43 days old.

The record holder was announced this Thursday (January 19) by the Guinness Book Instagram. “Hello the new oldest dog in the world. The record holder turned 23 years and 43 days on December 7, 2022, stands 9 inches tall and weighs just 12.9 pounds,” they wrote.

Spike was adopted by an American family after she was found in a grocery store parking lot.

Rita Kimball, his owner, told the Guinness Book of World Records that he had no idea Spike would be his pet 13 years later, let alone the oldest living dog, the Post explained.

The publication had a lot of likes and comments, and followers filled the profile with cute messages for the Chihuahua.

“How cute,” commented one user. “This one has seen more in this life than I have,” added another.

A curious fact is that last year the oldest dog in the world was also an American Chihuahua. The dog, nicknamed TobyKeith, has won the title multiple times since he was 21.5 years old. According to his guardian, the pet’s name was chosen in honor of an American country singer.

How long does the Chihuahua breed of dog live?

Scientific research shows that the average lifespan of dogs of the Mexican Chihuahua breed reaches 12 years, reaching the 20year mark. This “Doguinho” reaches an average age of 15 years. The explanation for the breed’s longevity is its miniature size.
