Single parents, early motherhood and female solidarity are at the heart of the intrigues of the new series The Pearls, which launches on Club illico on May 11th.

Starring Bianca Gervais, Erika Soucy’s (“Léo,” “Les Murailles”) dramatic comedy tells the life of a loving, lovable, and imperfect mother who unwittingly causes a storm in her small village on the Upper North Shore.
The trailer was unveiled on Tuesday. We see the first images of the 13 half hours directed by Hervé Baillargeon (“Six Degrees”) and produced by Encore Television in association with Quebecor Content.

Stéphanie Houle (Bianca Gervais) grows her “pearls” alone Laurence (Cassandra Latreille), 16, and Juliette (Anouk Tanguay), 9, to whom she gives absolutely everything. The teenager and the little girl have two different fathers who hardly care about their upbringing. When Stéphanie decides to finally think of herself and go south with her lover, preferring to say that she is attending a yoga retreat, she prepares a small scandal that takes on enormous proportions, as often happens in a community happens where everyone knows everyone.

At home, Stephanie faces the concerns of those around her. Her best friend Cynthia (Sharon Fontaine-Ishpatao), who had to cover her butt, told everyone that Stephanie was depressed. This little lie is taking on disproportionate proportions. Stéphanie has to keep up appearances, but above all reassure her daughters. To better her family’s lot, she must take it upon herself and refocus on her priority: the welfare of her daughters.
“When the truth comes out, she becomes an outcast in the village,” Bianca Gervais told QMI Agency last June, just weeks before filming began.

“To what extent do women have the right to be tired or not, what is expected of them from motherhood? How much empathy or judgment do you have in society? She went south to make love and is the guy judged like her? Are we dealing with double standards? added the actress, who we’ve been seeing on our screens since the mid-1990s.
The Pearls also capitalizes on the talent of actors Jonah Bacon, Chantal Baril, Anthony Bouchard, Isaac Brosseau, Normand Canac-Marquis, Claude Despins, Camille Felton, Bruno Marcil, Rosalie Pépin, Alex Pomerleau and Lucien Ratio. Note that the series also brings back Linda Malo (“Jasmine”) in “30 Lives,” who we haven’t seen in 10 years. She plays Esther, the wife of Martin (Bruno Marcil), an influential entrepreneur on the North Shore.
Bianca Gervais, who directed the documentary Mixmania: 20 years later last year, is also in the TVA series Les Moments Parfaits and she can still be seen on the radio in Véronique et lesfantastics.
