Last month, the Sûreté du Québec arrested around ten people in connection with cannabis smuggling in the Montreal area.

“These arrests follow an investigation launched in 2020 in collaboration with the Montreal City Police Service, which resulted in the seizure of more than $7 million in criminal property, including more than $500,000 in cash.” said the SQ in a press release.

During searches in June 2021, the police were able to confiscate 3,000 cannabis plants, 150 kg of cannabis, 9 kg of hashish, 3 kilos of cocaine and a large amount of magic mushrooms.

Those arrested on Dec. 19 are believed to be between the ages of 35 and 65 in the Montreal and South Shore area.

They will appear at the Montreal Courthouse later today to face charges of distribution and possession with respect to the distribution of cannabis, sale and possession with respect to the sale of cannabis, production of cannabis, possession of by property acquired through crimes, laundering of proceeds of crime, etc. to respond to drug trafficking.

The ACCES Cannabis program (Concerted Actions to Counter Underground Economies) is a government initiative launched in 2018 with the aim of combating cannabis smuggling at all levels of care.
