The operation

It was a very complex activity that began in September last year at the port of Gioia Tauro, with extensive checks on some containers coming from the Canadian ports of Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver and destined to reach the ports of All Khoms (Libya). , Casablanca (Morocco), Mersin (Turkey) and Jebel Ali (United Arab Emirates). At the same time, a careful analysis of the commercial transit and transport documents as well as a review of the customs lawfulness of the entry declarations and the associated information technology investigation results were carried out. Following this intensive investigation, 483 containers shipped on 18 cargo ships were blocked and inspected.

The value of the seizure

The activities carried out under the coordination of the Palmi Public Prosecutor's Office allowed the agents to seize 251 large-engined, almost new vehicles, some of which had almost perfectly falsified identification data and belonged to well-known and prestigious luxury vehicles, high-priced car brands, commercial, with a total value of around 22 million euros . The cars were the result of several thefts in Canadian territory.
