Selena Gomez is “in talks” to helm a reboot of the ’80s hit film Working Girl in the role that made Melanie Griffith a star

Selena Gomez has been mentioned as a possible reboot of the classic film Working Girl.

The 30-year-old is reportedly in final talks to star in and produce a reboot of the Oscar-nominated 1980s film.

Melanie Griffith, 64, starred as Tess McGill, a woman with “a head for business and a body for sin” who pretended to be her boss while the executive recovered from a broken leg.

The 1988 hit grossed more than $100 million at the box office and starred alongside Harrison Ford, Sigourney Weaver and Joan Cusack.

Melanie received a Best Actress nomination and both Sigourney and Joan were honored with Best Supporting Actress nominations.

In addition to starring in the updated version of the story, The Word Is Selena will serve as one of the producers working with Ilana Pena, who created the Disney+ series Diary of a Future President and served as showrunner.

Produced under the 20th Century banner, the film will likely stream on Hulu, where Selena now stars in the second season of the Emmy-nominated crime comedy Only Murders in the Building.

Selena also produces and stars on the HBO reality show Selena + Chef, a pandemic-inspired series that sees the confined actress work with master chefs to brush up on her cooking skills. The fourth season starts on August 20th.

Meanwhile, the Let Somebody Go singer is also said to be working on her climbing skills in preparation for In The Shadow of the Mountain.

The film is based on Silvia Vasquez Lavado’s bestseller about a victim of child abuse and neglect who found healing and strength in mountaineering.

She’s also been signed to star in Spiral, a thriller that follows a former influencer whose social media addiction is causing her body to literally fall apart.

Keeping herself off social media, Selena revealed earlier this year that she hasn’t been online in more than four years but has staff to handle her media posts. The mental health advocate is the chief information officer of a website called Wondermind, which offers free information from mental health experts.
