The Ottawa Senators are still looking for more salary cap flexibility to sign Shane Pinto and the solution could well be making a trade.
In recent weeks, rumors have mentioned the name of striker Mathieu Joseph as a possible subject of negotiation in a transaction. That being said, defenseman Erik Brannstrom could very well be the sacrificial lamb if we go by the words of TSN journalist Darren Dreger.

“[Pierre Dorion] try to exchange [Mathieu] Joseph. “He also had discussions about Erik Brannstrom,” Dreger said in the “Insider Trading” section.
Brannstrom will be a restricted free agent at the end of this season, which will have a salary impact of $2 million. Last year, the man who came to Ottawa in exchange for Mark Stone in February 2019 had the best season of his career with two goals and 16 assists for 18 points in 74 games.
