A scammer posing as a bank teller to steal bank cards continues to attack seniors, police in Sherbrooke, in the Eastern Townships, warned Friday.
The modus operandi would be the same each time: the person would make a phone call posing as a bank or credit union employee to tell their victims that their credit or debit card had been scammed.
He would then ask his victims to give their card and PIN to a delivery person “who happens to be outside of where they live,” or drop them in their mailbox, the Sherbrooke Police Department (SPS) said in its press release.
“In the seven files examined by the SPS this week, victims were in their 60s, police added. In this type of fraud, the suspects are often very persistent.”
Therefore, the SPS asks the population to be on their guard and not hesitate to hang up and contact the police.
