Colombian President Gustavo Petro expressed his solidarity with the Vice President for the failed attack against her.
“The Secretary of Defense has the situation under control and is working hand-in-hand with the authorities to identify and arrest those responsible,” he said.
He asserted: “If explosives and the mechanism for detonating them are found on the path leading to the Vice President’s house, which she routinely uses, then we face a very delicate situation. They wanted to sabotage and kill the government’s peace efforts,” he warned on his Twitter account.
The Peoples’ Human Rights Observatory also strongly condemned the attempted attack on the vice president and minister for equality as the event “poses a threat to the building of total peace for the peoples of Colombia and the world.”
Former Bolivian President Evo Morales condemned the explosive assassination attempt and expressed his solidarity and support for the first African-American vice-president in Colombia’s history.
“France, sister force, your integrity and the support of your people will defeat the racist right,” wrote the leader of the Movement for Socialism – political instrument for peoples’ sovereignty on his Twitter account on Tuesday.
The UN in Colombia rejected or condemned the crackdown on the Vice President’s life and the endangering of her family, entourage and residents of Yolombó, Cauca Department.
The United Nations in Colombia recalled that before assuming the vice-presidency, Francia Márquez was a recognized human rights defender, the victim of several attacks because of her work and a very close liaison with the UN Human Rights Office.
The office of the multilateral organization expressed its solidarity with her and her family and applauded the pre-emptive action of public authorities that deactivated the explosive device.
Yesterday, Francia Márquez confirmed that members of her security team found a device containing more than seven kilograms of explosives on the road leading to her family home in the village of Yolombó, in Suarez, Cauca department.
It was destroyed under the control of anti-explosive personnel from the National Police’s Judicial Investigation Section, he detailed on his Twitter account.
“The attached report shows that it was a new attempt against my life,” emphasized the Equal Opportunities Minister.
Despite these kinds of events, he will not stop working day by day until he achieves the total peace that Colombia dreams of and needs, he warned.
“We will not give up until it is possible to live in true harmony in each territory,” stressed the Vice President, who attached the report confirming the criminal attempt to her Twitter profile.
