The Fall of the House of Usher
Divided into eight one-hour episodes, “The Fall of the House of Usher” revisits the work of American writer Edgar Allan Poe in an imaginative, modern and spooky way. Imagine a combination of the series Succession and Painkiller, but full of sick hallucinations and gruesome murders.

Wednesday
I was charmed by this macabre derivative of The Addams Family, which centers on Wednesday, a gothic, nihilistic, sarcastic, pale, lonely, borderline sociopathic and very drooling college student. This so-called series for teenagers – and for the whole family – is a solid combination of Riverdale, Gossip Girl and Harry Potter, with a touch of The Vampire Diaries. A second season is planned. However, the release date is unknown.

Renfield
The humor is the great strength of this feature film, which was able to entertain us again and again. There is a life lesson in this, and the relationship between Renfield and his master Dracula has several parallels to the toxic relationships of “real life.” But above all, Chris McKay’s film is entertaining. It will delight those who love blood (and organs) flowing. The main roles are Nicolas Cage (Dracula) and Nicolas Hoult (Renfield).

Irma Vep
Irma Vep was filmed in the City of Lights with numerous French actors. The dialogues move skillfully between the languages of Shakespeare and Molière. The most amazing thing is the shape. The production, both modern and retro, is great.

Infinity pool
There are many elements to analyze in this film full of intensity from Brandon Cronenberg, who is in full possession of his potential. Thanks to an alternately nervous and atmospheric production with jerky images and psychedelic slow motion, he succeeds in creating a disturbing, suffocating and fear-inducing atmosphere. The haunting music reinforces this feeling of oppression and fear.

Evil Dead Rise
In an age where the scariest productions take the form of surreal nightmares or minimalist hallucinations, it’s refreshing to see that an old-fashioned film like Evil Dead Rise still has its place. Without being particularly original, the whole thing is extremely entertaining… especially to hemoglobin enthusiasts.

Hocus Pocus 2
Directed by director Anne Fletcher (“The Proposal”), almost everything has been pushed further than in the original film, be it the special effects, the witches’ reaction to various elements that we take for granted in our time, as well as the strength of the bonds, that connect the three sisters. Humor mixes with an emotional charge. There is something that satisfies fans of the franchise while attracting a new generation.

Werewolf at night
Those who think that Marvel Studios’ films and series are all the same will find that their latest offering stands out more. The “Special Presentation” “Werewolf by Night” is a delicious homage to the horror films of the 1930s and 1940s. A color version was released on Disney+ on October 20th.

Barbarian
There are these creations that come out of nowhere and take off with full force. Barbarian is part of the whole. On paper, it sounds like all those interchangeable thrillers in which strangers (here the very righteous Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgard and Justin Long) are brought together in a house that houses a dangerous and potentially deadly host who is ready to escape at any moment to appear in the shadows. But on screen the delirium is total and exceeds all expectations.
