Series July 2023: “Futurama” on Disney+, “Little Faith” on Movistar Plus+ and other premieres

With the arrival of July, the television completely goes into summer mode. The platforms and chains are noticeably easing the usual frenzy of releases in the coming weeks and it will be a good time to catch up on titles that were pending in the previous months. Despite this, Spanish bets will arrive in July, like the new series from the creators of Camera Café and the sexual revolution portrayed from fiction by the writer Noemí Casquet. The space projects of Bender, Fry and Co. are also returning and the new series by Steven Soderbergh is celebrating its premiere.

Additionally, “The Tragic Story of Dolores Roach” (7th on Amazon Prime Video) adapts a Sweeney Todd-inspired podcast about a woman rebuilding her life after being released from prison and working as a masseuse in the basement of an empanada store works. A summer classic, Crime in Paradise (Day 9 on COSMO) returns for its 12th season. The summer also serves as the backdrop for the second season of romance drama The Summer I Fall in Love (14th on Amazon Prime Video). And in “A Perfect Story” (Day 28 on Netflix), Anna Castillo and Álvaro Mel are two young people from very different social classes who are united by love.

More information

Espionage takes center stage in Ghosts of Beirut (Day 3 on SkyShowtime) to tell, through documents and a real investigation, how Mughniyeh became one of the world’s most dangerous terrorists. It will also return with the second season of Foundation (14th on Apple TV+), the television adaptation of the novels by Isaac Asimov. The new episode of The Afterparty (Day 12 on Apple TV+) once again combines humor and criminal investigation, experimenting with a different genre in each episode. And the Norwegian film Kids in Crime (Day 18 in Filmin) follows two friends on their descent into the world of drugs.

Of this month’s releases and comebacks (which you can check out on our calendar), we recommend you try these picks.

little faith

Enrique Martínez and Raúl Cimas, in an image from the series Little Faith.Enrique Martínez and Raúl Cimas, in an image from the series Little Faith.

Raúl Cimas and Esperanza Pedreño star in this comedy about the everyday life of Pepón Montero and Juan Maidagán (Camera Café, Just before Christ). Its 12 episodes – one for each month of the year – each 15 minutes long, follows the slow unfolding of this couple’s life through on-camera interviews with them, as well as with their family, friends, colleagues, neighbours, acquaintances and even the people who came by. Gags that border on surrealism but are grounded in everyday life and based on situations and characters that you (unfortunately) easily recognize yourself in are the basis of this perfect story to marathon and laugh on a summer night.

Where and when can you see it? The opening will take place on Tuesday 4th on Movistar Plus+.

the resort

Cristin Milioti, in the series The Resort.

15 years after the disappearance of two teenagers while vacationing at a Riviera Maya resort, a couple arrives to celebrate their anniversary. By chance, they find the first clue to the whereabouts of the missing couple in years and decide to investigate. Suspense comedy produced by Sam Esmail (Mr. Robot), written by Andy Siara (Palm Springs) and starring Cristin Millioti and William Jackson Harper. Critics, which hit theaters in the United States last year, applauded this combination of comedy, thriller and intrigue, leading its protagonists to a potentially surreal and odd reaction to The White Lotus.

Where and when can you see it? From Friday 7th on Movistar Plus+, with two episodes per week.

closed circle

Claire Danes and Zazie Beetz, in the series “Closed Circle”.

Steven Soderbergh is the creator and director of the six episodes of this miniseries, which also stars Claire Danes, Timothy Olyphant, Dennis Quaid, Zazie Beetz and Jharrel Jerome. The plot follows the investigation of a botched kidnapping that uncovers long-kept secrets and ties together various characters in New York. Among them are an agent from the United States Postal Inspection Service and a Manhattan corporate attorney and her husband. An intricate plot of sorts (that’s how the series itself is sold) written by Ed Solomon, it received critical acclaim when it premiered at the Tribeca Festival.

Where and when can you see it? It premieres July 13 on HBO Max.

female dogs

Andrea Ros and Mirela Balic, in the second episode of Andrea Ros and Mirela Balic, in the second episode of “Zorras”.

Three girls from different backgrounds meet one night and end up in a place that opens their eyes to a different sexual world. This experience will encourage them to create a kind of private club where they try to live out all their sexual fantasies. The half-hour chapters of this comedy adapt the novel of the same name from the trilogy by Noemí Casquet, a journalist and author specializing in sexuality. With a decidedly feminist and sexually explicit and didactic tone, it follows the lives of these three friends as they explore all the possibilities that sexuality offers, an entire female sexual revolution based on friendship and sisterhood.

Where and when can you see it? On Sunday 16th at Atresplayer.

futurama

The poster for the new season of “Futurama”.

Created by Matt Groening, the series, which tells the adventures of a pizza delivery boy who freezes in 1999 and thaws in the year 3000, is a true survivor who has recovered from multiple cancellations and lived multiple lives. Ten years after his last farewell, he returns for his eleventh season with the double aim of satisfying the audiences already won in previous years and attracting new followers to the cause. To do this, the characters not only have to continue the love story between Fry and Leela, uncover the secrets of Nibbler’s sandbox, the secret history of the evil robot Santa Claus or the whereabouts of Kif and Amy’s tadpoles, but also face each other. to a pandemic devastating the city while the team searches for vaccines in the future and suffers the aftermath of bitcoin, culture abandonment, and streaming television. What can you expect from her? His usual sarcasm and satirical view of current events.

Where and when can you see it? It premieres Monday the 24th on Disney+.

The architect

An image from the series The Architect.

This Norwegian satire was the winning series at the last Berlin Festival. His argument is set in futuristic Oslo, but not very far away. A young architect cannot afford to pay a mortgage or rent that is already going through the roof. He can only live in a kind of shared flat in an underground car park. When a project to build a thousand apartments in the city is put out to tender, it is proposed to build them precisely in the parking lots that are no longer used due to the absence of cars. A satire halfway between black comedy and drama, set against the background of rents in the main European cities.

Where and when can you see it? In Filmin, on Tuesday, 25.

Good omens

Martin Sheen, Jon Hamm and David Tennant in the ‘Good Omens’ Season 2 poster.

The angel Aziraphale and the demon Crowley, much to their regret, were forced to work together to prevent the end of the world. Now angels and devils live quiet lives among mortals in London’s Soho. But their peaceful sojourn on earth is disrupted when a messenger brings them a surprising secret. Michael Sheen and David Tennant star in the second season of Good Omens, based on the novel by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, which also stars Jon Hamm as Archangel Gabriel.
