“I am overwhelmed by the violence in schools. We trivialize what happened. It no longer makes sense and scares me,” said the young victim’s mother.

The 15-year-old was attacked with a Swiss knife in front of other students on Monday afternoon in front of the Jacques Rousseau secondary school. Classes resumed in the afternoon.

Her mother, also a teacher, remembers the principal’s call. “I was in class at dinner, I almost collapsed. My phone fell to the floor, I stopped myself from screaming. »

Then she describes the hours of torture that followed for her son in the hospital: “He lost two liters of blood and spent four hours on the operating table. Around him stood seven surgeons. He was bleeding and they couldn’t determine where the blood was coming from. We were about to lose it. »

The knife pierced his small intestine, a nurse, who is not authorized to speak to the media, told the Journal. “An inch lower and it affected his aorta,” he says.

Two teenagers were handcuffed in this case. One of them is accused of carrying a gun for a dangerous purpose, while the second is also charged with assault with a gun and aggravated assault.

The student was released from intensive care on Wednesday. He is still in the hospital with security guards guarding his room door.

“He’s not getting enough sleep because he’s starting to realize what happened. He cries a lot and is scared. His body is shaking. He says he’s afraid of dying… Mental recovery will also take a long time,” she confides over the phone while sitting by her son’s bedside.

The latter began being bullied and arguing with other students in 1st secondary school. “His demeanor has completely changed. When you’re bullied, you become a bully, it’s a vicious cycle. He wasn’t just a victim either [a causé] problems,” she admits.

He started hanging out with young people “who caused trouble because he felt safer with them.” His mother even transferred him to school the following year, but the bullying would have resumed with Jacques-Rousseau.

“I was already traumatized by all these stories and the times he came back with bruises, but almost losing him is the highlight. I can’t have a bigger trauma than that,” she chimes in, her voice shaking.
