Seven people were shot dead at two crime scenes in Northern California. Another person was seriously injured, Half Moon Bay police said last night. The alleged shooter, a 67-year-old man, has been arrested, Sheriff Christina Corpus said.
The motive for the crime is not known. The man acted alone. The bloody crime in the US state of California took place in an agricultural region south of San Francisco. The man fired shots at a farm, among other things, he said.
Two dead in Iowa
In addition, at least two students were shot dead at a youth center in the US state of Iowa. Another person who works downtown was seriously injured in the incident in Des Moines, local police officer Paul Parizek said. Three suspects were arrested shortly afterwards. According to Parizek, it was a “directed” rather than “random” act.
He did not provide any information about the possible motive or the ages of the victims and suspects. The educational institution in question is aimed especially at young people struggling with difficult circumstances.
“All youth deserve a chance to grow beyond the circumstances into which they were born and to realize their spiritual, emotional, physical and economic potential,” states the program’s website. This particular school exists to help young people who need help the most, Parizek said.
Another fatality after a bloody act in a dance hall
Gun violence and deadly attacks of this magnitude are sadly normal in the United States. Over the weekend, a gunman opened fire in a dance hall during a Chinese New Year celebration in Southern California.
Another victim has since died from his injuries. The announcement was made last night by the hospital LAC+USC Medical Center. The death toll rose to eleven. Another person’s condition being treated at the hospital was described as “serious”. Two patients are in the process of recovery.
