Seven News Brisbane sports reporter Pat Welsh bid farewell to viewers on Monday after 47 years on the network.

An emotional Welshman paid tribute to his viewers and colleagues as he said his last farewell.

“I started this job as a young reporter in the mid-’70s with one goal: to tell sports stories and hopefully report them the way you, the viewers, wanted to see it,” he said.

“I’m leaving hoping I’ve done that.”

Known for his rugged and upbeat style, Welsh continued: “For a rusty sports fan, I’ve lived an adorable life.

“Thank you to my beloved wife Ceci, my extended family, the hundreds of work colleagues over the decades and our brilliant Seven News viewers. I had a lot of fun.”
