Seven years in prison for improvising as a firearms dealer at age 18

A young man who improvised at the age of 18 by freely displaying illegal firearms on social media and selling two of them to a double agent has just been sentenced to seven years in prison.

Bradley Mathurin recently unwittingly found himself at the center of an arms trafficking investigation. When he was barely 18, he was targeted by the police, who suspected him of selling drugs on Instagram.

But the investigation quickly took a completely different turn when the young man strutted around with weapons during a video chat with a double agent.

He pleaded guilty last month to offenses related to the possession and trafficking of firearms.

In fact, he sold two firearms to the undercover agent.

Offer of weapons

“Would you like a piece?” the defendant asked him first, making a pistol sign with his fingers.

Mathurin even boasted that he was able to get him several types of weapons in less than two days, as well as a high-capacity magazine, a laser pointer and the option to fire in automatic mode.

He also showed the double agent videos of himself handling firearms and gave him various tips on purchasing and using them.

Prices for a new gun fluctuated between $3,500 and $7,000, while for a used gun they were around $2,000.

However, according to the young person, this option is not recommended because it could mean that it has already been used for a crime.

The double agent was then offered several options, including a Glock made with a 3D printer and a pistol that instantly fires 12 bullets thanks to a “switch.”

He ultimately chose a used Smith & Wesson .38 caliber revolver that sold for $4,000.

The second item he was able to purchase from Mathurin was a privately made handgun, also called a ghost gun.

Danger to public safety

The same homemade weapon is said to have appeared in a music video by the defendant that was available on the Internet.

The defendant also published another video on social networks in which he proudly holds a firearm in his hand, which the police analyzed turned out to be real.

The two transactions between the young defendant and the double agent took place in broad daylight in a public place, which may have had a “significant impact on public safety,” prosecutors said in the courtroom yesterday. the Crown, Mrs Kiran Ross.

Judge Marc-Antoine Carette agreed to the seven-year sentence proposed by the parties.

This sentence also takes into account the defendant’s juvenile delinquency, some of which relates to firearms-related offences, Mr Ross added. Bradley Mathurin, now 19, has been in custody since his arrest last April. He has another six years in office.
