Seventy-year-old beaten in Jonquière: A second medical report requested for the defendant –

The lawyer for Gabriel Talbot, the man who is said to have beaten a 71-year-old woman in her home in Jonquière last May, has called for a second medical report to be prepared for his client.

This is because Me Olivier Théorêt disagrees with the psychiatric report, which indicates that the defendant could be held criminally responsible for his actions. The file is postponed until January until this new report can be prepared.

The daughter of the brutally attacked septuagenarian is disheartened. She doesn’t understand that the trial against her mother’s alleged attacker is still being postponed.

“I think it’s sad because my mother had a violent attack,” Julie Tremblay said. This may be the third time he has appeared in court. The first time I said to myself “We’re not done yet”, the second time I said “ok” and now I thought it was normal today [vendredi] knowing it has been postponed again.”

For the lawyer representing Gabriel Talbot, his client was not of sound mind when he allegedly carried out the violent attack.

“The defense is very clear on the record. We believe that the gentleman was not responsible at the time of the events due to a mental disorder,” said Mr. Olivier Théorêt.

Talbot has a long criminal history. At the time of the attack he was on parole after serving a 13-year sentence for three counts of attempted murder.

The case will be heard again in court on January 16. “Time for our expert to review Mr. Talbot’s extensive psychiatric documents. You will then meet Mr Talbot, meet witnesses and then carry out the report. So you see, there is still a lot of work ahead of our expert,” said Me Théorêt. “We are sad, we can’t wait to know where he will go because we know there will be no next victim,” concluded Julie Tremblay.
