Quebec cinema is well represented at the 16th faire Angoulême Francophone Film Festival, which kicked off Tuesday night in south-west France.
No fewer than six Quebec films have been included in the event’s programming this year, including Denys Arcand’s new satirical comedy ‘Testament’, which will be previewed on Saturday.
Simple comme Sylvain by director Monia Chokri will also be presented to the public in Angoulême after its premiere at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival last May. Note that Monia Chokri is also part of the festival jury, which this year will be chaired by French actress Laetitia Casta.
Two feature films from the province of La Belle will represent Quebec in the festival competition. These are the black comedy Bungalow by Lawrence Côté-Collins and the drama Le Plongeur by Francis Leclerc.
Finally, the documentary L’Osstidquoi? L’Osstidcho!, about the genesis of the mythical show in 1968 at the Théâtre de Quat’Sous, was selected in the Festival’s Favorites category, while the animated film Éviction by Alexandre Paquet will be presented in the short film competition.
The 16th edition of the Angoulême Francophone Film Festival runs until Sunday.
