After affecting Abitibi-Témiscamingue and part of the Outaouais, the storm potential moves to the southeast. The culprit: the cold front behind Wednesday’s instability. The prerequisites for a lift, which is necessary for the formation of thunderstorms, are thus given.
South and central Quebec are at moderate risk. The regions from Montérégie to Bas-Saint-Laurent via Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean could experience the strongest storms.
Possible supercells and rotation
Supercells could even form. A rotation cannot therefore be ruled out. Bas-Saint-Laurent and Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, including the Laurentides Wildlife Reserve, must be observed closely.
Good to know : A supercell is a violent thunderstorm characterized by the presence of upward motion that occurs in rotation. This will likely produce tornadoes.
A touch of instability still hangs over the rest of Quebec, but the cells should be less powerful.
In general, hail is possible, as are strong gusts. There could also be copious amounts of precipitation, particularly at the peak of the disruptions.
Afternoon and evening are the observation times, but some cells might hatch in the morning.
