Yann Perreau believes it is disproportionate that he is still having difficulty practicing his profession, three years after allegations of a sexual nature forced him to withdraw from public life amid the #metoo movement.
“On a scale of 1 to 10 [en termes de gravité], I don’t think I was at 10 yet; I didn’t strangle anyone,” he explained in an exclusive interview he gave to Stéphan Bureau in Paris for his podcast, which will be broadcast on QUB Radio on Tuesday morning.
When asked by the host whether he thought his enforced absence was proportionate to the alleged facts, Perreau replied “no.”
“I don’t think the girl is still suffering from insomnia after touching the buttocks; I still have insomnia,” says the singer, who also expresses regret for the inappropriate actions he took.
Still uncomfortable
Despite the past years and the path he has traveled both in therapy and in his personal reflections, Yann Perreau, who has settled in France since 2022 for the professional ambitions of his partner, maintains that some people in showbiz Industry still feel uncomfortable when they show up professionally with him.
“I have received dozens of emails and many discussions that show me that people are uncomfortable [de travailler avec moi], he complains. Not because they’re afraid I’ll do something stupid again […] “They tell me: I trust you, but I’m afraid that it will get me into more trouble,” the singer then explains.
“I was always awake”
Throughout the interview, Perreau accepts responsibility for the actions he took in 2013, 2016 and 2018, when he was accused of non-consensual sexual contact as well as an inappropriate joke and an unsolicited photo of a suggestive nature. Despite everything, he believes he has always been a good person.
“I have always been a bright person and considered myself an ally of feminists,” he claims.
“I was always there at events like the benefit dinners for breast cancer or for the victims of the Polytechnic,” he adds, “unfortunately, as we have seen, I have my mistakes.” »
A necessary shock
The 47-year-old artist from Lanaudière argues that the wave of denunciations in 2020 represented a “necessary shock” for society.
“I don’t blame anyone, I take full responsibility; All of these reactions were part of a revolution that took place […] If I had been clean, I would not have been appointed,” explains Perreau.
The singer also talks about the times he resisted the acts he was accused of.
“I would often get slapped on the buttocks or even my penis when leaving my shows,” he remembers. I haven’t managed my social networks, but I know that I have received photos of breasts and even videos of women sleeping with their husbands telling me: “I wish it were you.” »
Yann Perreau is planning his album return for spring 2024. His exclusive interview on the Contact podcast with Stéphan Bureau is available online.
