The urban green and urban management (SGS) division has been in constant operation since the beginning of December, as heavy snowfall has left its mark on the city, which will continue to keep employees of the urban green and urban maintenance division busy in the coming weeks.

“The SGS team has been working continuously since the beginning of December and I would like to thank all employees from the bottom of my heart for their commitment. In addition to the very challenging winter service operation, the large amount of damage caused by snow pressure also needs to be repaired on a scale that even severe storms typically do not cause. Safety is, of course, the top priority,” said councilor Mag.a Eva Schobesberger.

Cleaning work continues at full steam until all damage is removed. The early timing of the heavy snowfall made the situation worse because many trees still had leaves and this, combined with the frozen snow, led to many broken branches. To date, SGS has collected around 140 tons of branches, etc., in the city area.

In addition to winter maintenance, many paths also had to be cleared of branches and trees in kindergartens, schools and parks had to be checked. Some outdoor areas of kindergartens, schools, as well as connecting paths and parking spaces are currently closed. Time-consuming climbing work is sometimes necessary here to ensure traffic safety and final clearance. The SGS team requires removal of this snow pressure damage in addition to winter service and existing daily tasks such as street cleaning and green maintenance.
