Shakira has hit out at ex Gerard Pique’s new girlfriend, Clara Chia, in a new searing candid interview, revealing how their split has made her ’empowered’.
The 47-year-old hitmaker admitted she “bought into the story that a woman needs a man to be whole” but has now realized she can be “self-sufficient.”
Former Barcelona player Gerard, 36, split from Shakira in June 2022 after 11 years together and officially took to Instagram with 23-year-old Clara last month.
Shakira reportedly realized her ex had been unfaithful when she discovered a jar of strawberry jam had been eaten while she was away.
Discussing their split, she told journalist Enrique Acevedo on Mexico’s Canal Estrellas: “There’s a place in hell reserved for women who don’t support other women.”

Brutally! Addressing their split, she told journalist Enrique Acevedo on Mexico’s Canal Estrellas, “There’s a place in Hell reserved for women who don’t support other women.”
Shakira went on to reveal that she now has “more confidence” and has become a “lioness” to her two children, Sasha, seven, and Milan, ten.
She explained: “I bought this story that a woman needs a man to complete herself. I also had this dream of a family where the children had their mother and father under one roof.
“You don’t achieve all your dreams in life but life has a way of compensating you and I think life certainly did with the wonderful two children I have who fill me with love every day.
“I’ve always been emotionally very dependent on men, I fell in love with love and I think I was able to understand this story from a different perspective and today I’m enough on my own.”
“When a woman faces life’s struggles, she comes out stronger,” the singer added.
“Now, paradoxically, I feel complete because I’m on my own and having two children who are on my own and that means I have to be stronger than a lioness.
“That strength comes from experiencing a painful loss, accepting it, tolerating a frustration, understanding that life doesn’t always bring us what we want.
“There are dreams that are broken and you have to pick up the little pieces off the floor and put them back together and set an example for my children too.”

Shakira concluded: “Now I have more confidence. I didn’t know that I could end up being strong. I always thought I was more fragile. It’s true that I have a bit of everything, but you have to have faith.’
The couple spared their two children a damaging legal battle by confirming last November that they had reached a custody agreement after protected negotiations and signed the agreement in a Barcelona court the following month.
Experienced family lawyer Ramon Tamborero, who represented the ex-soccer player in his negotiations with the Colombian artist, stressed: “They put a lot of effort into the well-being of their children and made sure that they were not the protagonists. Both have shown great intelligence.’
Last month, Gerard and Clara made their relationship official on Instagram, with the jock snuggling up to his new love, 23, in a cheerful selfie – which quickly racked up a million likes.
Earlier this month, Gerard opened up about his relationship with Clara for the first time, admitting that she’s the one who wears the pants in their relationship.
In an on-air chat with Spanish streamer Ibai Llanos, Gerard confessed that Clara chooses his clothes for him when they go shopping together, comparing himself to a “puppet”.
Gerard appeared on a live stream with Ibai ahead of his new football competition, the King’s League.
The Twitch streamer asked if he’s still keeping up with fashion trends since retiring from professional football earlier this season.
He replied: “The truth is that I go shopping with my girlfriend and she buys them for me. I am a puppet.”
Last week, Gerard and Clara were filmed shopping together on the streets of the Catalan capital.
Gerard also admitted that Shakira was the most famous person outside of the world of football that he had as a contact.
In a YouTube interview, he said: “I would probably say Shakira, who was my partner. I’m thinking of Instagram followers and yes I would say Shakira for that reason.
“That’s if it’s not football related because I think Cristiano Ronaldo is the person with the most Instagram followers in the world right now.”
She explained, “I’ve always been very emotionally dependent on men and I think I was able to understand that story from a different perspective and today I’m sufficient on my own” (pictured together in 2019)
The decision to take their romance to his social media comes after Shakira took a swipe at Clara in her new diss track, which has since topped Spotify’s global charts.

The hitmaker then referenced the strawberry jam in a music video for her single Te Felicito in April, which featured a clip of her collaborator Rauw Alejandro’s head in an open fridge.
According to ShowNews Today, Shakira knew that Gerard and her two sons, Sasha and Milan, didn’t like strawberry jam, so she suspected someone else stayed at their house when she found the jar.
The singer seemed to allude to it in the music video for her single Te Felicito, where she opens a fridge to be greeted by Rauw’s head.
It comes after she placed a horrific life-size witch doll on the balcony of her Spanish home, reportedly watching over her former mother-in-law’s flat.

While Shakira’s new song has some conflicting lyrics aimed at Gerard and his supposed new love Clara Chia Marti, it also includes a few choice words for her ex-mother-in-law.
In the song, she sings the line, “You left my mother-in-law to be my neighbor, with the press at the door and the debt in the treasury…”
It was reported that the relationship between Shakira and Montserrat Bernabéu [Gerard’s mother] has grown sour after readily welcoming her son’s new romance.
