The project, carried out by Yino Márquez, member of the House of Culture and Peace and coordinator of the plastic arts programs of the District School of Art and Popular Traditions (EDA), said in dialogue with Caracol Radio that the image was chosen by Shakira, who chose how he wanted to look in this project. The singer stood behind this idea and advised every step and every change made.
The idea was based on the look the dancer wore in Hips Don't Lie, in which she moved her hips and mentioned Barranquilla The special feature of this statue is its height of 6.20 meters.
Additionally, it is worth noting that the sculpture was built over five months and was handed over to Shakira's parents in a private ceremony. “A heart that composes, hips that don't lie, an unmatched talent, a voice that moves masses and bare feet that march for the good of children and humanity,” the sculpture reads.
However, there is a spelling error at the bottom of the sculpture: “Elaborated by the artist Yino Márques”, and then the Márquez is marked with the letter Z, and although the names are not spelled, the artist always writes them using the last letter of the alphabet.
