Shark alarm in Mallorca three meters long shark spotted

Fishermen discovered the three-metre-long colossus off the coast of Mallorca.

Mallorca, the popular holiday island for Europeans, often stands for relaxing days at the beach and relaxing holidays. But just before the start of the vacation, an unexpected visitor caused an uproar: a group of fishermen spotted a gray shark more than three meters long off the coast. Fortunately, the animal is considered harmless to humans.

According to a report by the “Mallorca Zeitung”, it was an unusual catch for the fishermen. “For about an hour we had no idea what was on the hook. The line didn’t stretch properly and barely moved,” one of the fishermen told Gaceta Náutica magazine.

After about 45 minutes, the fishermen discovered their surprising guest: a ten-foot-long gray shark. “It was neither our intention nor our objective to capture such an animal”, emphasized one of those involved. In order not to hurt the animal, the fishermen decided to turn off the engine and cut the fishing line. The basking shark then disappeared back into the sea.

There is no reason to be concerned

There is no need to worry, because gray sharks are generally considered harmless to humans. So far, no attacks on humans are known. This shark species feeds mainly on crustaceans, cephalopods, cartilaginous fish and fish, and carrion.
