Shark kills 15 year old teenager in Australia

The teenager's body was recovered from the water. It is not yet known what type of shark it was.

A shark attacked and killed a 15-year-old boy in a surf area in South Australia. The teenager's body was recovered from the water, police said Friday. So the animal attacked on Thursday afternoon near Ethel Beach on Yorke Peninsula. Authorities did not provide further information about the incident. The boy would have come from a suburb of Adelaide.

An Ethel Beach resident said another surfer paddled in to help after the teenager was bitten on the leg, according to The Advertiser. “The shark was circling around them as the man pulled the boy out of the water. There was a lot of blood.” Initially there was no information about the shark. The coast of South Australia is known for being home to great white sharks. In late October, witnesses saw a shark attack a 55-year-old surfer. In May, a 46-year-old man was attacked by a shark. (APA/AFP)
